Life is a Daring Adventure - Or Nothing
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is not safer in the long run than exposure.” Helen Keller.
I have always loved this quote. Well, to be honest I have always loved the first bit - I have never seen the whole of it, and when you do, it makes it even more powerful. It came to me today at the end of my meditation and somehow resonated deeply. What also resonated was it is my choice. Am I going to continue to choose the daring adventure?
It has been a roller coaster year for many, including me. It can sometimes feel a bit tiring. At those moments I tend to want to climb under the covers and feel a little ‘poor me’. As I said in my newsletter last month, it is a time to keep on going. But it is also a time not to just keep on going but to step back into the middle of the river rather than hang onto the sides. To choose the daring adventure.
I was speaking with a dear friend recently who was lovingly reminding me to stay open to what comes. During our conversation she told me that she was moving from where she had lived for a long while now. I asked “where are you going?” and she replied “no idea – but something will turn up and I am staying open to what comes”. Now that’s life as a daring adventure and I realised that I had stopped living like that recently. I had fallen into the trap of thinking I knew what the next ten years held and stopped being open to the adventure.
Now it is fine to have plans and we need them to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. But what I have seen this week is that if we get too set on a plan. we stop being aware of what else is happening around us. And we begin to believe that there is in only one way to climb a mountain.
I had gotten focus on a particular passion – working with a likeminded team to empower people to live life fully. Great passion, but I had become tunnel focused, believing there was only one way to make it happen. Instead of the daring adventure I had tried to create the security. Nice and safe, no surprises. And, as you will know if you know anything about NLP and how the mind works, once we get focused one thing then our unconscious mind can act like a search engine to find us the exact match. Great if you are focused on the right thing – fatal if you have forgotten to be open to this or something better.
On the bottom of our passions cards in The Passion Test workshop we ask our participants to write "this or something better”. That’s the daring adventure. That’s being open to what comes. Yes focus what you want, yes focus your passions, yes set goals and markers and things to achieve and yes take steps to make it happen. They are all important. AND leave the door open to having what you want come in a different way.
Time and again I have seen this happen with clients, once they have seen the essence of what would make them happy, it has shown up but not in the way they would have thought when we started working together.
So my challenge to you this month is to look and see where are you limiting your life? Where are you not living life like a daring adventure? Where are you not seeing the opportunity in what might outwardly look like adversity? What can you let go of to create the space for what you really want to flow into? December News and Offers
Well it is that time again and so I have some great ideas for some Christmas presents for those that you love.
The Passion Test workshop that we just held in London was a great success and people are already booking their place on the next one on Saturday Feb 19th. In this thought provoking (one participants words to describe the process) workshop, people get so clear on what they want in their life that they are confident in the decisions they want to make. And so can go on to be successful at what they chose.
Why not give The Passion Test to someone you love for Christmas, what better gift than the clarity to create the life their heart desires?
There are two ways you can give The Passion Test:
Either a place on the next workshop on February 19th in London (or the next one if they can’t make the one in Feb)
Or as an individual one-2-one session (more info on the booking page), dates to be arranged with the person you gift this to.
Click Here for more information and to Book One of the Options Now. Once you have booked email me with the name of the person you are buying it for and a personalised voucher will be emailed to you.
Of course you could always give it to yourself too - the next workshop is on Feb 19th - at least save the date in your diary!
Another great Christmas present is my book Remembering Perfection. This book is a simple and easy guide to living life with more meaning. Here’s what one reader had to say:
“I can always tell how much a book has an impact on me by the degree to which I quote from it to my friends and the amount I write about it in my diary. I've been doing huge amounts of both since reading Remembering Perfection, so can honestly say that this has been one of the books that has moved me the most recently (and I read a LOT of books of spirituality!). There's nothing earth-shatteringly new in the book but where Jessica excels is in making what can be abstract spiritual concepts very real and very practical, and while doing this, weaving in beautiful observations and stories on the themes she covers. Highly recommended.”

And lastly, a great stocking filler – an Mp3 guided meditation on Remembering Perfection. This guided meditation leads you gently into reconnecting with your own inner Self. By leading you into a deep relaxation, you can reach a quiet space that allows you to get in touch with your own inner perfection. Once in touch with your inner energy you can begin to experience your own connection to the Universal energy

Received this email warning from a friend today, biggest laugh out loud for a while…
PLEASE READ. If someone comes to your front door and asks you to remove your clothes and dance with your arms in the air, DO NOT do this, it is a scam, they just want to see you naked. Please copy and paste this to your mailing list. I wish I had received this yesterday, I feel stupid now.
Have a fun month and a great Christmas and New Year!
