Heard the term 'Life Coaching' and wondered what it is? Sounds intriguing? Recently a friend said to me the main problem with doing what you want to do in life is knowing what you want to do! Many people are not sure of the answer to that one. Others know what they want to do but are not sure of how to get started. Life Coaching, in its essence, is working on a one to one basis to find the answers to these and many other questions we may have about life. It is moving towards a point where we are fulfilling our potential, where life finally makes sense. I can remember thinking many years ago, 'Well I've achieved all that I was supposed to do to feel fulfilled and happy - job, house, holidays, lifestyle - and none of it works!' There was still something big missing in my life and I decided that I needed to find out what it was. One thing I found out along the way is that we each create our own reality, our own world that we live in. A lot of people can't grasp this idea, but how often have you thought about something and then had it turn up in your life? I can remember this happening to me even before I realised the power of thought. Seemingly synchronistic things would occur as if by magic. One that comes to mind was many years ago when I was on holiday and I first saw people hang-gliding in the Alps. Immediately I said to myself 'I want to do that!' The holiday continued and I kind of forgot about it until two weeks after I got home and met a hang-gliding world champion who 'happened' to live ten miles away and own a hang-gliding school. Luck? Coincidence? Well, many people might say so but I had lived in the area for three years and had never heard of the school or seen them flying nearby. I feel that I had a hand in the coincidence. That one, truly focused thought set the ball rolling. What we focus our thoughts on is what is real for us in the moment. It might be how we feel on any particular day. Try it - when you notice that you are feeling out of sorts; grumpy; nothing is going right; decide at that very moment you are going to notice the good things in life. Pick one and focus on that. It could be as simple as looking out the window and really seeing what a beautiful area of the world we live in. Whatever is a good thing for you just choose to put your mind on it. Try it, see if you feel different. Now, I'm not saying that your whole life will change from this one action but it will give you an experience of 'where your mind is, therein lies your reality.' Even once we know what makes our heart sing, what our dreams and wishes are, we sometimes can't quite believe that we can do it. This is why it is essential to know that it is our thoughts that are the creative force in our life. If we focus our thoughts on the 'not being able' then however much we want to do something it won't happen. By looking at each of these aspects of ourselves that stop us moving forward we start to break through the blocks, the negative beliefs we have about ourselves, and begin to create the life we truly want. Only you can find your answers, they lie within you, but having someone ask the relevant questions can point you in the right direction. Once you know the 'what' - that crucial piece of information - you can then work with the 'how' - by clarifying your goals, setting an action plan and starting to walk along the path towards them. The nice thing is that the coach walks with you, is your cheerleader, helps you stay walking forward when things get challenging, and, is simply on your side.
