There are many practical things that you can do to move yourself towards your chosen career; goal setting, action planning, marking milestone are just some. There is however another very powerful thing you can do to boost your efforts; it is like turning on a turbo charger: visualisation. Whether it is your experience or not, we are all connected by a common bond – energy. Quantum physics has shown us that everything – absolutely everything – is made up of energy. And that energy, whether is it a tree, a computer, or you, is the same energy simply vibrating at a different density. Visualisation uses this fact and the fact that energy is like magnet, like attracts like. Have you ever had the experience of thinking about someone and then have them call you out of the blue? Or deciding that you’d like a cup of coffee and someone walking into your office asking you if you’d like a cup? That is like attracting like. You can use this to consciously start attracting what you want in your life. Your thoughts are energy too, and as you think about what career you wish to have, you send out magnetic thoughts that start to attract it to you. People turn up out of the blue who can help you create what you want, conversations just happen that move things forward, opportunities arrive seemingly out of nowhere, synchronistic events drop into your lap, you get an inspired thought that answers the one question that has stopped you creating your dream career. You have just induced the Universe to play your game. Visualisation starts to bring your desires for a new career out of the realm of dreams and possibility and into the realm of probability. There are specific steps you can take to make this happen. As you become clear on what you’d like your new career to be, how you’d like it to feel, start to build a picture of it in your mind. Be as specific as you can.
Step One – See It If you don’t have that level of specifics, but know the type of career you’d like or the skills you’d like to employ, start to think about the type of workplace you’d like to be in. What are the people like? What would be your roles and responsibilities? Would you travel? What hours would you like to work? Are you working with others or on your own? What promotions are possible? Where does this job lead you? Or maybe you are thinking about setting up your own business. You can really flesh this idea out. What is your business, what would your day look like? Who are your customers? What skills will you be using in your business? Do you have an office – where, what does it look like? Keep adding the detail as you see it.
Step two – Feel It Visualisation is a very powerful tool in the toolbox but be very careful about what you want as it does answer your prayers – I had a client who wanted to work in the city in a top design studio – she created the dream but left out the bit about having enough time to enjoy the city, hence her rather long hours at the office! Be specific and build as much detail into the picture – and have fun with this – the world can be and is your oyster!
